NWMCOG Announces Community Growth Grant Opportunity

Funding available to communities in the six-county Grand Vision region

As part of a generous grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments (NWMCOG) will be administering a Community Growth Grant program for local and county governments in the Grand Vision region that includes Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, and Wexford Counties.

Grants of up to $20,000 will be made available on a competitive basis to city, village, township, and county governments in each county in the six-county Grand Vision region, for projects that implement Grand Vision principles by removing barriers and creating incentives for greater investment and development in our region’s potential investment centers. Successful projects, which may include planning, plan implementation, public works, or infrastructure projects, will support the creation of a framework to encourage investments with long-term community impacts.

The request for proposals will be released the week of June 11; applications are due on Friday, July 23. Notice of the funding opportunity will be provided to all city, village, township, and county planning commissions and elected boards in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, and Wexford Counties.

For more information on the grant opportunity, please contact Matt McCauley, Director of Regional Planning, Northwest Michigan Council of Governments at 231-929-5061, or via email at mccauley@nwm.cog.mi.us.

Additional information on the Community Growth Grant program can also be accessed on the NWMCOG website, at www.nwm.org.

Established in 1930, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation supports children, families and communities as they strengthen and create conditions that propel vulnerable children to achieve success as individuals and as contributors to the larger community and society. Grants are concentrated in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean, and southern Africa. For further information, please visit the Foundation’s website at www.wkkf.org.

The Northwest Michigan Council of Governments is a regional planning, workforce development, and economic development partnership of governmental units serving the population of the ten-county region of northwest Lower Michigan.
