2010 MSU Ag Expo: LPI Experts to Address Wind and Agriculture, Planning and Zoning for Kids
It's time, once again, for the annual Michigan Agricultural Equipment Exposition (Ag Expo), Tuesday, July 20, through Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the northwest corner of Farm Lane and Mt. Hope Road on the campus of MSU in East Lansing. Under the big top the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources tent, the Land Policy Institute will be presenting on such topics as wind and agriculture and the Junior Citizen Planner program.
Chuck McKeown, LPI's Renewable Energy Program Manager, will discuss key linkages between energy and agriculture in Michigan in his presentation on "The Renewable Energy Capacity of Agricultural Lands in Michigan." Renewable energy types, such as wind, solar, ethanol, biofuels and their impacts on the agricultural community and industry will be addressed. McKeown will also outline strategies for planning for the energy economy.
Statewide Coordinator of Michigan Citizen Planner Wayne Beyea will provide an overview of the Junior Citizen Planner (JCP) program, which is a joint effort between the Land Policy Institute's Michigan Citizen Planner and 4-H Youth Development to promote youth land use education. This program is in response to the need for making a long-term impact on land use by educating and equipping today's youth and tomorrow's leaders with effective land use decision-making tools. This presentation will offer a hands-on activity for children. Michigan Citizen Planner is an MSU Extension program within LPI.
The Ag Expo is free and open to the public. Come find us in the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources tent and join in the fun.
