Master Plans

A Master Plan provides a vision for, and a rationale to support physical development in a local planning unit of government today and in the future. A Master Plan provides the framework to accommodate that growth. Aesthetic strategies will be balanced with financial considerations, and steps for implementation.

  • The Onekama Community (Onekama Township and Village) in Manistee County has recently collaborated to create the Onekama Community Joint Master Plan. Citing the aid of the Smart Growth GuideBook, this joint master plan incorporates several of the principles of the New Designs for Growth Development Guidebook.
  • Norman Township in Manistee County has utilized the concepts of the new economy, the pillars of prosperity, and the ten tenets of smart growth as recommended by the Michigan Land Use Leadership Council to design the Township of Norman Master Plan.
